We’ve welcomed ambitious and entrepreneurial interns, many of whom are studying for degrees in accounting, business, economics, banking and mathematics.

As well as a supportive and collaborative working environment, we provide support and training to enhance your experience and knowledge as well as give a good idea of what it would be like to work with us full time. We are also very friendly with a great track record of employee satisfaction and high retention rates.

We’ve included interviews with three of our most recent interns below to give you a little more insight about the Vintage experience and the opportunities you can access when you choose to spend time with us.

  • Esther Akomolafe – Work Experience

Why did you choose Vintage for your internship?

I wanted to get a better understanding of a corporate environment.  This opportunity has allowed me to understand how various departments in an organisation work together to achieve the overall business objective.

I initially wanted to be an accountant but having the opportunity to work in the Mortgage Department has stimulated my interest in becoming a Mortgage Adviser.

What area of the business did you work in?

The Mortgage Department, Operational Support and Sales & Marketing.

What was your favourite experience of the internship and why?

Working in the Marketing Department. I was given a research assignment which covered the comparison between Robo-advice and IFA advice.  The research was interesting and gave me insight into the challenges the advice industry is currently facing and how, even though the industry is leaning towards Robo-advice, there is still a need for personal human interaction. Vintage Wealth Management offers a holistic personal approach to all their clients which is a service the market is still keen on receiving.

Would you recommend an internship at Vintage and if so, why?

Definitely. Vintage employs a friendly team of people who were very helpful in teaching me how to use the systems. I have benefited from a good exposure to all departments, which has been helpful when considering which career path to pursue.

  • Ellis Temple – Internship

Why did you choose Vintage for your internship?

This has been my second Internship at Vintage. My previous experience was at Vintage Asset Management,  an associated company. I have been lucky to gain so much insight into the world of work in Financial Management.

What area of the business did you work in?

I worked closely with Elisa Paterson on Estate Planning and the Inheritance Tax process.  It has been interesting to learn and understand the various processes required in order to attain information on funds owed to deceased clients.

What was your favourite experience of the internship and why?

Sharing an office with Mohamed Sheikh, who works within Robert Stein’s team.  Mohamed is passionate about what he does and takes his role very seriously, but he also takes the time to make it fun and exciting.

Did you develop/learn any new skills, techniques or knowledge during your internship?

Yes, I have learned to work faster but remain cautious enough not to risk my attention to detail.  I have also noticed that, with a lot of practice, I have become more confident in speaking to clients on the telephone. The practical experience I have gained over this period has really worked in my favour.

Would you recommend an internship at Vintage and if so, why?

Yes definitely. There is a friendly working environment and a good balance between hard work and general conversation in the workplace.  Vintage offers the opportunity of getting an overall feel of how a corporate operates.

  • Luke Jennings – Internship

Why did you choose Vintage for your internship?

This is my second internship with Vintage. I was interested in getting a better understanding of the role of an Independent Financial Adviser, as this particular career may be one I am keen on exploring.

What area of the business did you work in?

I assisted the Paraplanning, Financial Advisory and Investments team and I spent some time at Vintage Asset Management as well.

What was your favourite experience of the internship and why?

Attending client meetings with the Director and Compliance Officer and meeting the company representatives. I attended a management meeting with 15 other individuals, and it was interesting to see how the meeting was conducted, the types of topics discussed and how each role at the meeting played a very important part in decision making.

Did you develop/learn any new skills, techniques or knowledge during your internship?

Absolutely. I was lucky enough to attend some of the company’s role-play training sessions, which was a great way to learn the correct way to communicate with a client and see for myself how to obtain important information from them. It was also interesting to learn how decisions and holistic financial planning solutions are arrived at based on the clients’ needs.

Would you recommend an internship at Vintage and if so, why?

Yes, the staff are helpful and very friendly to work with.  This internship has allowed me to gain an overall insight into all the various departments, which has helped me consider career choices.
